Protests in Iran RUB stands by Iranian students and researchers

A great number of Iranian citizens are studying and researching at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. They are extremely worried about their families and fellow students back home.

"We stand by the students and researchers from Iran and strongly condemn the violent death of the young Iranian woman Mahsa Amini," says Professor Isolde Karle, Vice-Rector for Diversity, Inclusion and Talent Development.

Dozens of people have been killed in the ongoing protests to date. RUB university members have also joined the protests, risking much in the process. RUB fundamentally condemns the use of violence against non-violent protesters.

"We hope that the situation will calm down soon and that, most importantly, it will be possible to take steps towards freedom," says Karle.
