Gender Studies Princess A Sibanda is Marie Jahoda Fellow 2023

She presents her research in a lecture in Bochum.

Princess A Sibanda from South Africa is coming to Bochum in 2024 with the Marie Jahoda Fellowship. She is the first postdoctoral researcher to receive the fellowship.

Princess A Sibanda is a scientific artist. Her research interests include participatory forms of performance in everyday life and their intersections with ethnicity, gender and sexuality in Africa. She holds a PhD from the University of Kwazulu Natal and a Master of Arts in Drama and Performance Studies from the same institution. She is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Fort Hare, working with Professor Zintombizethu Matebeni, Marie Jahoda Fellow from 2022.

During her stay in Bochum, Princess A Sibanda will be involved in research activities around the international summer school "Queer Masculinities", which will take place in East London, South Africa, in March 2024. At Ruhr University Bochum, she will work in particular with Professor Henriette Gunkel from the Institute of Media Studies and Paulena Müller from the DFG Research Training Group "The Documentary. Excess and Withdrawal".

Appointment
  • Princess A Sibanda will give a public lecture on January 17, 2024 at 6 pm as part of the MaJaC colloquium. Registration by e-mail is requested. The title of the lecture is Theatre of/for Disobedience: An African Queer Resistance.
  •  A workshop on "Bodies Don't Lie: Towards Embodied Methodologies" will take place on January 23, 2024 at 5 pm. The workshop is aimed at students and staff from all disciplines with an interest in gender, sexualities and queer studies. The number of participants is limited to 30. Registration is possible by e-mail.
