Ruhr University Bochum expands its relations with India
From July 2025 onward, Ruhr University Bochum will be an official supporter of the German House of Science and Innovation in New Delhi (DWIH).
Ruhr University Bochum wants to strengthen cooperation and the transfer of knowledge and innovation with partners in India and is therefore committed to supporting the German House for Science and Innovation (DWIH) in New Delhi as an associate supporter. The DWIH, which is run by the German Academic Exchange Service, acts as a platform for exchange and networking between the Indian and German scientific communities. As part of the University Alliance Ruhr and the Research Alliance Ruhr, Ruhr University Bochum aims to tap further research and innovation potential in India.
One of the top three countries of origin
With almost 50,000 students, Indians now make up the largest group of international students in Germany. At the same time, the country is pursuing ambitious goals in science and research and wants to expand its international university relations. Ruhr University Bochum has a long history of successful cooperation with Indian scientific institutions, and India is one of the top three countries of origin for international students on the RUB campus. “In our new internationalization strategy, we have set ourselves the goal of strengthening proven and well-functioning international activities, while at the same time adapting to changing political, social, and demographic conditions and setting long-term strategic and regional priorities in cooperation with international partners,” said Rector Professor Martin Paul, who was able to learn more about the work of the DWIH New Delhi during a higher education policy trip with other university leaders from Germany in the spring of this year.
Encourage interested researchers and departments
Together with other DWIH supporters, Ruhr University wants to promote Germany as a place to study and do research and expand cooperation in areas such as knowledge transfer. Future internationalization activities will also focus on the targeted recruitment of highly qualified talents and the establishment of strategic partnerships in the region.
“The plan is to encourage interested researchers and departments at Ruhr University to participate in formats and events with the DWIH New Delhi in order to achieve networking and expand joint cooperation with Indian partners,” says Monika Sprung, representative on the advisory board of the DWIH New Delhi and head of the International Office at Ruhr University Bochum.
