Ruhr University Takes a Two-week Break

The university is saving energy and closing for the holidays until early January 2026.

At the turn of the year, Ruhr University Bochum will be closed from December 22, 2025, through January 4, 2026, to save energy. As was the case last year, the entire university will be closed, including the off-campus properties. The only exceptions are the University Library ((open on December 29 and 30 and from January 2) and the Unifit gym (from January 2). The Unishop at HZO will reopen on January 7.

Please participate!

During the closure, the heating and cooling capacity of the ventilation systems will be switched to a reduced operating mode. The heating systems will be set to night mode (frost protection mode) and the corridor lighting will be dimmed.

All Ruhr University employees on campus and in the off-campus properties are asked to actively participate in the implementation and to observe the following points on their last working day before the closure:

  • Set the thermostatic valves on the radiators to “1” (or similar)
  • Close all windows
  • Turn off the lights

The editorial team wishes you a wonderful, relaxing holiday season and all the best for the new year. Starting January 5, 2026, you will find news about campus events here again.
