CASA – Cybersecurity in the Fast Lane

In the podcast Think. Try. Transform., Eike Kiltz and Christof Paar discuss what lies ahead for us in the field of information security.

Around the turn of the millennium, a businessman’s visionary idea sparked the creation of Bochum as a hub for IT security. A good 20 years later, globally sought-after specialists in the field of cybersecurity work here. The CASA – Securing the Digital Society Cluster of Excellence has just entered its second funding phase, crowning the meteoric rise of this research field.

Prof. Dr. Eike Kiltz and Prof. Dr. Christof Paar explain to host Sven-Daniel Gettys in the Ruhr Innovation Lab’s “Think. Try. Transform" by the Ruhr Innovation Lab, what makes IT security in Bochum so successful and what is planned for the cluster over the next seven years. One thing is certain: it won’t be boring. Artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and ever-new attacks present challenges for research.

In this episode, you’ll learn why the human factor plays such an important role in IT security, what quantum computers will be capable of, which devices and applications incorporate Bochum’s encryption technology, and how the RUB has succeeded in attracting so many top international researchers.
