Rectors Step into the Ring
On September 16, a special duel awaits: Rector Martin Paul versus Rector Manfred Bayer. Usually, the Bochum and Dortmund rectors join forces – but not for this special occasion.
Pitch Boom Bang! On September 16, 2026, a unique duel will take place: In the presence of boxing legend Regina Halmich, Professor Martin Paul, Rector of Ruhr University Bochum, and Professor Manfred Bayer, Rector of TU Dortmund University, will step into the ring. Of course, no fists will fly. As part of the “Founders Fight Night” at Kokerei Hansa in Dortmund, the two will compete in a duel of ideas.
During the event, two startups will face off against each other in each round; the audience will decide which advances to the next round. Manfred Bayer and Martin Paul will participate outside the competition. They will use their fight to present the Ruhr Innovation Lab, with which the two universities have applied for the title “Consortium of Excellence.”
