I Connect Research and Competitive Sports

As an active basketball player, Lisa Kullik has a unique perspective on her research topic in sports science.

I combine research with high-performance sports. And not just in theory, but also in practice. As a research assistant at the Department of Sport Psychology in the Faculty of Sports Science, I investigate how the menstrual cycle influences the recovery and well-being of female athletes. My PhD project focuses particularly on menstrual symptoms. In addition to my research activities, I am also active as an athlete. Bochum is thus both my academic and sporting home. With the VfL VIACTIV-AstroLadies, I celebrated the vice-championship in the 2nd Women’s Basketball Bundesliga this year. From both perspectives, I know that women are still significantly underrepresented and need and deserve more attention. I hope that I can make an important contribution with my research to optimize the care of female athletes. In my role as a player and captain, I want to be a role model for young girls and make women’s sports in Bochum and the surrounding area bigger.
