With funding from the Research Development Fund, WUN is supporting a project led by Bochum-based scientist Sadik-Zada, which aims to develop a model for a fair energy transition in Africa.

Since 2022, Ruhr University has been a member of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), a network of 24 research-intensive universities from around the world. Every year, the network announces the Research Development Fund for joint research projects by representatives of the network universities, which focus in particular on key topics in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals. Starting in January 2026, the project “Africa-Focused Initiative for Just Energy Transition – AFFINITY-FORSIDES” will be funded by Dr. Elkhan Richard Sadik-Zada from the Institute for Development Research and Development Policy at Ruhr University. Sadik-Zada is leading the international joint project, in which a total of 12 of the 24 network partners are participating. The researchers' goal is to establish an innovative dialogue forum for just energy transition in Africa.
