International Reception An Evening for Exchange and Networking

The first post-pandemic gathering was a win-win for all involved. Next edition to follow.

For the first time since 2019, the reception for international researchers of Ruhr University Bochum could take place "live" again. The Rectorate and the organizing International Office are pleased about the lively participation and interactive exchange between all participants and how well the event was received. As a networking event for new and established international researchers at Ruhr University, the reception will once again resume its place in the calendar on an annual basis.

The diversity of people on our campus is invaluable.

“The diversity of people on our campus is invaluable. This includes bringing the best minds from all over the world to Ruhr University and welcoming them warmly into our university community”, says Rector Professor Martin Paul.

For us, this is a sign of a living welcome culture at our university.

The exchange is organized by the Welcome Centre at Ruhr University Bochum and is intended to contribute to the success of the researchers' stay in Bochum. "For us, this is a sign of a living welcome culture at our university," says Reena James, the Rector's Senior Policy Advisor for Internationalization. The evening also serves to promote interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange and networking among participants, including the opportunity to meet and speak with university management and staff of various service and support facilities of the university for international researchers in an informal setting.

We have replaced it with alternative offerings in recent years.

Anna Gopon

"The event has not been held in attendance since 2019 due to the corona pandemic, and we have replaced it with alternative offerings in recent years," explains Anna Gopon of the Welcome Centre, who took the lead in organizing the reception. Around 120 international scientists took part in the new edition: Professors, post-docs, doctoral students, research associates, visiting scientists, and research fellows.
