ChatGPT GPT@RUB for Students and Staff
Access will be granted starting October 8. Registration is now open.
With GPT@RUB, Ruhr University Bochum is providing all students, teachers, and staff with a privacy-friendly way to use ChatGPT and, in the future, other language models for free starting in the winter semester 2024/25. For example, if students are to learn how to use these tools during their studies, they need reliable access.

Use in Teaching, Studies, Research, and Administration
Generative technologies can be used in various and meaningful ways in teaching, studies, research, and administration. However, many questions arise regarding their use: What can university members do with GPT@RUB? What is legally allowed in exams? What is not? To account for the different needs of the subjects, there is no university-wide directive on whether tools like ChatGPT can be used in exams, for example. As with all other tools, this decision is up to the respective subjects.
Using GPT@RUB
GPT@RUB is only accessible within the campus network or via VPN. Ruhr University Bochum pays for the use of Open AI language models. The costs depend on the usage volume. Therefore, students, staff, and teachers have a certain usage quota available, which is automatically recharged at the beginning of each month.
More information is available on the IT.SERVICES webpage (German website) and in the GPT@RUB FAQ (accessible only within the campus network or via VPN; german website).
