Ruhr University Once Again Stands Up for Freedom and Diversity

On July 16, starting at 11:30 a.m., all members of Ruhr University can participate in an open meeting at the Forum.

Following the demonstration in front of the GA building on July 9, the Rectorate of Ruhr University Bochum is once again inviting all members of the university to take a stand for freedom and diversity. The university management writes:

“Dear members of Ruhr University Bochum,

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who responded to our call and attended last Wednesday’s gathering. Your participation was a powerful and encouraging demonstration of unity, diversity, and democracy on our campus.

However, our work is not done. The incidents that have deeply affected us—intimidation, right-wing extremist graffiti, and attacks on institutions dedicated to equality and anti-discrimination—remain pressing issues.

As the semester is about to end and the lecture-free period approaches, we invite you once again to show presence:

  • Open Gathering – Vigil for Freedom and Diversity
  • Wednesday, July 16, from 11:30 to 12:30 in front of the Audimax

This time, there will be no speeches—but an action of visibility. Let us stand together and show how many we are and what we stand for: For freedom. For diversity. For all of us.

Over the summer, we will be developing an action plan and are also preparing a university-wide campaign for freedom and diversity. Thank you in advance for your support and your commitment.

With best regards,

Prof. Dr. Martin Paul and Prof. Dr. Isolde Karle
Rector of Ruhr University Bochum and Vice-Rector for Diversity”
