#RUBJahresfeier Anywhere – except the Audimax

The celebration of the academic year 2020 at RUB takes place on 14 December as an online event.

Following the successful online summer party and welcome party for first-year students, RUB will make a virtue out of necessity for the third time on 14 December 2020: the university is going to relocate its annual party from the Audimax to the Internet – adopting the name “#RUBjahresfeier” for the occasion. Starting at 2 p.m. on Monday, several clips will be shown here, including a retrospective of 2020 as well as clips featuring students who achieved outstanding academic success.

Rector Axel Schölmerich looks back

Assisted by members of the Rectorate and the University Council, Rector Professor Axel Schölmerich looks back on the eventful year 2020. He naturally discusses coronavirus and its consequences for life on and, most importantly, outside the campus in detail: i.e. the consequences for studying and teaching, for research as well as for technology and administration – and how RUB managed to overcome these challenges. A full chapter is dedicated to the crisis within the crisis, namely the cyberattack. Accompanied by moving and still images, the Rector also talks about the highlights of this year, which was an exceptional one for everyone: awards and other successes, high-profile guests, new buildings, the virtual summer party and the online welcome party for first-year students.

Emotional Zoom meeting

RUB awards prizes to outstanding students from all disciplines every year. This policy continues in coronavirus year 2020 as a matter course, because many prize-worthy theses were written despite the pandemic. However, the prizes are not awarded on stage, but at a casual and at the same time emotional Zoom meeting. There, the award winners simultaneously unpack their parcels with certificates and gifts and share a virtual toast with Rector Professor Axel Schölmerich.
